Steps for Success

UnaSource Comprehensive Weight Loss Center Program

Research supports that a dietary approach with meal replacements is superior to an all food approach for both short and long term weight loss as well as improvement of obesity co-morbidities. If the nutrition program instructions are followed consistently, the average weight loss is between 12-20 lbs. per month. Men typically average 4.5 lb weight loss per week, while women average 3.5 lb weight loss per week. A multidisciplinary approach including nutrition, physical fitness, and behavior modification will enhance success.

Getting Started……Now is the time!!

Attend Weight Loss Seminar

  • When: Select Mondays at 10am and Wednesdays at 7pm. Call for dates and schedule ***FREE***
  • Where: UnaSource Conference Room – Suite B100
  • Why: Highly informative session on medical and surgical weight loss, challenges with obesity, and program details.
  • Who: YOU!! Try to attend before or after first visit.

Make First Appointment with Physician (#248-952-5083)

  • +/- Make same day appointment with dietitian
  • +/- Discuss if desire/ need lab work same day

Step One……Cheers to you—meet your team members!!

First Medical Appointment (60 minutes)

  • History and Physical Exam
  • +/- Lab work if fasting
  • +/- EKG
  • Meal plan determined. Appointment made with registered dietitian

First Dietitian Appointment (45-60 minutes / Separate fee- $60-$98)

  • Nutrition Evaluation
  • Meal Plan Instruction
  • Instruction on purchasing supplement if applicable

Set a goal to establish an exercise commitment

Step Two…..On your mark, get set, GO!

Follow-up Physician Appointment (15-30 minutes)

  • Within 1 -2 weeks of starting nutrition program

Subsequent Physician Appointments (15 minutes)

  • Schedule every 2-4 weeks as deemed necessary

Follow-up Dietitian Appointment (30-45 minutes /Separate fee)

  • Within 4-6 weeks of initial evaluation
  • Address questions, concerns, meal plan modifications
  • How to get creative with veggies!!

Set a goal to attend one nutrition and one behavioral class. (One hour course on most Monday evenings. Separate fee $25.00)

Step Three…Action Hero!

Regular Follow-up Physician Appointments (15 minutes)

  • Attend 2-4 visits per month as determined to assess weight, goals, commitment, challenges, exercise routine

Follow-up Dietitian Appointment (30-45 minutes / Separate fee)

  • Plan modifications, adjustments
  • Learn how to add variety to food choices

Attend one or more nutrition and behavioral class monthly

Set a goal to be physically active on most days of the week

Step Four…. In the Groove!

Regular Follow-up Physician Appointments (15 minutes)

  • Attend 2-4 visits as determined to assess weight, progress, lifestyle challenges, goals

Follow-up Dietitian Appointment (30-45 minutes /Separate fee)

  • Plan diet modifications, variety in nutrition plan

Attend one or more nutrition and behavioral class monthly

Regular physical activity

Step Five….Making it work!

Regular Follow-up Physician Appointments (15 minutes)

  • Attend 2-4 visits as determined to address weight, progress, exercise, barriers of success

Follow-up Dietitian Appointment (30-45 minutes / Separate fee)

  • Design individual meal plan program to maintain weight loss

Have attended at least 50% of the nutrition and behavioral classes

Step Six…Maintaining your efforts!

Follow-up Physician Appointment (15 minutes)

  • 1-2 per month as determined
  • Discuss efforts to avoid relapse, obstacles to maintaining success

Follow-up Dietitian Appointment (30-45 minutes / Separate fee)

  • Review meal plan, challenges, lifestyle, strategies for weight maintenance

Step Seven…Good job—you are at or near goal!!

Medical monitoring as determined by physician

Follow-up dietitian visit as determined for weight regain prevention strategies
